Kevin McDermott is based in the Newport Beach, CA office. Since 1981, Kevin has been trying criminal cases, to include Federal, state and military cases. Kevin began his career as a Marine Corps Judge Advocate serving first as a prosecutor and then defending individual Marines and sailors in over 200 cases while on active duty. After leaving active duty, Kevin continued to represent military personnel and expanded his practice to include defending individuals against charges in Federal and state courts. He has been lead counsel in excess of 75 jury trials, most notably, several court-martials involving war crime allegations arising in Iraq and Afghanistan as well as defending former servicemembers against charges under the Military Extraterritorial Jurisdiction Act [MEJA] in federal court. Additionally, Kevin has been lead counsel in over 20 Federal and state civil trials. He also represents individuals and corporations in internal investigations, pre-indictment, grand jury and post-indictment matters before regulatory agencies.  He has handled a wide variety of white collar-related matters including RICO; securities, fraud and banking violations; health care and tax offenses; political corruption, trade secret, procurement fraud crimes; and environmental offenses.
